Born on October 17,1972 in St. Joseph, Missouri and named Marshall Bruce Mathers III, known later to the world as Eminem, took his first breath. I have created this site as a personal dedication to this man. He happens to be one of the most talented lyricist and honest rap artist out there today. Not to mention his being the HOTTEST guy working in the hip hop/rap scene today (in this webpage creators opinion). Telling the world about his life growing up: The battles with enemies, struggles with love, his neglectful mother and much more. His thoughts spill from his mind to paper and into music like no other. And while doing this, he sticks his middle finger in the air and tells whoever doesn't like him that they can go F**K themselves.
When Mathers was born in 1972, he was the child of a poor, working class family. His father moving out shortly after his birth and his mother moving around constantly, forced him as a boy to learn how to be on his own, barely having the time to make any friends. He turned towards what could always be there for him, television and comics. After attempting to get past the 9th grade three times and failing, Marshall decided that dropping would be the best thing for him to do. He took his stage name M&M at 14 performnig at night, while working odd jobs during the day to make money, this is the time where he worked on his rhyming ability.
Although being looked at by local "rappers" strangely and not being taken seriously, Marshall continued to rap. Showing he had a real ability to battle on the spot with his words to those around him. Making himself known on a real local level, he eventually changed his stage name of M&M to the current spelling everyone recognizes today of Eminem. Eventually even becoming part of groups, just to get a chance to make it and be taken seriously. This sense of knowledge and intelligence, would pay off for him in the long run.
That is where it all began for Marshall Mathers. Not having an easy time of it, he eventually found a path that led to drugs and alcohol abuse, but he kept trying to get ahead. At one desperate point, trying to commit suicide. This time pain and struggle would later bring inspiration to him for writing some of his greatest works. And to top it off leading him to fame, happened simply with the right person being in the right spot. Jimmy Iovine, impressed with Em after his second place win in 1997 Rap Olympics Freestyle believed he found someone with real talent. Later Iovine would introduce Marshall to the one and only, Dr. Dre, who immediately contacted Em, starting their very fruitful friendship together.
Marshall was about to bust onto the main stream as Eminem with his first released song "My Name Is." And greatly stated, the song was introducing him to the world, creating a very memorable video showing that he was around to stay. Hitting the radio waves and music video screen, secured Em with an instant success in 1999, dubbing him one of the best newcommers on the scene. Releasing his first "public" album The Slim Shady LP with Aftermath/Interscope Records, Em was definately here to stay.
Prior to his 1999 release of The Slim Shady LP, Em had released an album entitled Infinate in 1997 and a year earlier The Slim Shady EP was released. Both albums were done by the Web Entertainment Group and are no longer available on the market. A few of the songs featured on the well known LP originally came from or inspired by songs on Em's underground EP album.
After his success in 1999 with the release of the Slim Shady LP, Eminem returned with his Sophomore release in 2000, The Marshall Mathers LP. This album hit big with songs such as, "The Real Slim Shady" and "Stan" featuring the artist Dido. Helping Em prove he wasnt a one hit wonder (or two hit wonder) like some white rap artists before him.
The Marshall Mathers LP was followed up by the collaboration with his group D12 with the album entitled Devil's Night. This album, unlike his two prior albums were released under the Interscope Record label and his own Shady Records. Thats right, Em started his own record label. This desire from trying to help artists get a start, like Dr. Dre helped him get a start.
In May of 2002, with much anticipation, Eminem's Junior solo album was released. Due to Internet bootlegging, the release date was even earlier than originally expected, hoping to cutdown on illegal burnings. AND as a special bonus, those who purchased the album in stores received a special DVD. The Eminem Show is so far the best album and his most achieved album to date. The album shows off Em's many talents as an artist and earns him the respect he deserves.
At the end of October 2002, the soundtrack for Marhall's movie starring debut arrived on the scene, 8MILE. Although, very similar to his life, the movie 8MILE is a rough adaptation of what Eminem, as an artist, really did face in the streets of Detroit. His struggles growing up on the wrong side of Detroit and the trouble he faced on his way to success. The movie movie following the album release in early November and released onto VHS/DVD in March, 2003. And again for purchasing the DVD, fans get a special treat. Not only are deleted scenes with freestyle raps added on; this is the only way to see Ems music video for the song "Superman."
Now, almost 2 years since a new solo album, a new colaberation with his boys of D12 will be hitting the stores in April 2004. But, he wasn't slacking off in 2003. We saw two of his first artists off his own record company Shady records get air play. Creating the next generation of rap stars. Em introduced a rough man that didn't let getting shot 5 times get him down, 50cent. Then 50 and his boys G-Unit got their turn at the airwaves together.
Also, by the Fall 2003 his clothing line will be became available in department stores. People are able to wear the comfortable style that Em sports all the time. Each items design had to be approved for comfort standards by Em before being sold under the name ShadyWear.
We now have to wait and see what's up next for him...
